According to a report by IDR for the year 2023, Australia ranks first, having produced the highest amount of gold from its mines this year.

According to the report, Australia became the world’s top country in gold production in 2023. The country has achieved this feat by producing 12,000 tonnes of gold. Notably, contributes 8 percent to Australia’s GDP. Russia stood at number two with 11,100 tonnes of gold in 2023. Additionally, Moscow has remained Europe’s top gold supplier since 2010. The Russian government-led by Valdimir Putin himself, is an important buyer of gold.

South Africa is also an important name

In 2023, South Africa generated 5,000 tonnes of gold, which is a decline compared to previous years, yet it continues to be the leading gold producer in Africa. The East Rand mine located in Boksburg, is pivotal to this output and is recognized as one of the deepest mines globally, reaching a depth of 3,585 meters. Meanwhile, the United States has established a significant position in the global gold market by producing 3,000 tonnes in the same year, with Nevada and Colorado serving as key mining hubs.

China

China produced 3,000 tonnes of gold in 2023, which was equal to America’s production. Notably, Beijing’s recent environment policies affected its mining industry. Despite all the challenges, the country’s focus on sustainable mining could set new industry standards. Indonesia is ranked next in the list, contributing 2,600 tonnes tothe  global supply in 2023. Indonesia gets gold from the Grasberg mine in Papua. It is one of the largest gold reserves in the world.

In 2023, Brazil generated 2,400 tonnes of gold. The country has a long history of gold mining, with current operations concentrated in the Amazon and Para regions.
