Banks, post offices, central government offices and stock markets across the country are closed today on account of Eid al-Adha or Bakr Eid which is celebrated on Wednesday, 22nd August 2018. There should be no impact on the functioning of ATMs as banks will resume work tomorrow.

Eid al-Adha is a festival for the Muslim community. The story behind is the festival is that the God once told Prophet Ibrahim, the father of Prophet, to sacrifice a thing which is dearest to him to prove his love to him. He decided to sacrifice his son to respect the words of the God. When the Prophet was about to sacrifice his son, God sent Jibrail to replace it with a male goat to sacrifice as a substitute for his son.

As per the God’s instructions, the male goat was sacrificed by dividing into 3 spares. Since then, Eid is celebrated across the world by offering poor the one-third of the share, another one-third to friends and families. The residual portion is retained by the family.
