Eternal, the parent company of Zomato and Blinkit, has received three orders from the GST department raising a total tax demand of over Rs 40 crore, including interest and penalties.

The orders were issued by the Joint Commissioner-4, Bengaluru, covering the period between July 2017 and March 2020.

What Zomato Says On Tax Demands Notice?

Eternal, which operates four key businesses Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure, has announced that it plans to challenge the tax demands by filing appeals.

“The company has received 3 orders on 25 August 2025 for the period July 2017 to March 2020 passed by Joint Commissioner, Appeals-4, Bengaluru, confirming total demand of GST of Rs 17,19,11,762 with interest of Rs 21,42,14,791 and penalty of INR 1,71,91,177,” Eternal said in a late night regulatory filing on Monday.

“We believe that we have a strong case on merits, backed by view from lawyers and the company will be filing appeals against the orders before the appropriate authority,” it added. 

How Is Eternal Linked To Zomato?

Eternal Ltd. (formerly Zomato Ltd.) is the Indian multinational holding company founded by Deepinder Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah, which owns businesses including Zomato, Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure. Deepinder Goyal is the Founder and CEO of the company. 

According to Goyal, the name “Eternal” is a mission statement to remind the company of its need to constantly improve and endure, not just to be successful but to continue to grow and achieve.
