RINL Revival Package: Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Central Government has stepped in to save a prominent steel manufacturing company. Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Friday that the Union Cabinet has approved a Rs 11,440 crore revival package for RINL. Highlighting the company’s significance, he stated that it holds a unique position in the steel industry and is one of the few steel plants located on the coast of Visakhapatnam (Vizag) in Andhra Pradesh. RINL plays a crucial role in the country’s steel sector.

With the package of Rs 11,440 crore, long-standing issues faced by the company will be addressed. The focus will also be on modernising the steel plant and ensuring the supply of raw materials.

Cabinet Approves Rs 11,440 Crore Package

The Rs 11,440 crore package includes a new equity investment of Rs 10,300 crore and the conversion of Rs 1,140 crore in working capital loans into preference share capital. This is going to benefit all RINL employees and those involved in economic activities of the company. A major steel plant in Andhra Pradesh is set to be revived soon.

RINL will soon start operations with two blast furnaces and is planning to operationalize all three by August.

The cabinet of Andhra Pradesh, led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for providing a substantial financial package to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, which has been facing significant financial difficulties for several years.

Vizag Steel Plant

Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), which operates the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, is a Navaratna Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Steel. The Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, commonly known as Vizag Steel, is the first integrated steel plant located on the coast in India and is recognized for producing high-quality products that satisfy customers. It leads the market in long products and serves various industrial sectors. This plant was the first to receive ISO 9001:2008 certification (currently updated to 2015), along with ISO 14001:2004 (also updated to 2015), OHSAS 18001:2007, and ISO/IEC 27001:2013 standards. Additionally, it was the first public sector enterprise to achieve ISO 50001:2011 certification for Energy Management Systems and has obtained CMMI Level 3 certification for software development.
