Walmart, the largest private employer in the United States with around 1.6 million domestic employees and around 2.1 million globally, is going to cut jobs over a broader organizational restructuring.
The retail giant is eliminating hundreds of roles, particularly in store support and training functions, including the position of market coordinators. This move is part of Walmart’s strategy to streamline operations and focus on high-traffic store locations.
Walmart layoffs
According to an internal memo from Cedric Clark, Executive Vice President of Store Operations at Walmart U.S., the company is also revamping roles within its training academies to focus more on in-person associate development.
Market coordinators, who assist managers with data organization and analysis, are among those being impacted. While many affected employees will be offered reassignment opportunities like coaching roles or newly created positions, this restructuring is part of Walmart’s broader effort to improve efficiency.
