The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has announced a revised settlement framework for UPI (Unified Payments Interface) transactions, introducing separate cycles for authorised and disputed transactions. The new rules will come into effect from November 3, 2025.

GPay, PhonePe, Paytm: New Rules For UPI Transactions

Now, UPI processes 10 settlement cycles per day through RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement), with each cycle handling both authorised and dispute-related settlements. Wherein UPI transactions have seen exponential growth, NPCI has decided to segregate authorised and dispute settlements to ensure faster and smoother processing.

Changes In UPI Settlement Cycles

  1. Authorised transactions only – From Nov 3, settlement cycles 1 to 10 will process only authorised transactions. No disputes will be handled in these slots. There is no change in existing RTGS posting timelines or cut-over timings.

  2. Dedicated dispute cycles – Dispute-related settlements will now be processed separately, twice daily, in settlement cycles 11 and 12. These will be tagged as DC1 and DC2 in the NTSL file naming convention.

  3. Other rules unchanged – All other processes, including settlement timings, reconciliation reports, and GST reports, remain the same.

NPCI has also extended the deadline for discontinuing all autopay mandates linked to the old @paytm UPI ID handled by two months, to October 31, 2025.
