Google has warned that iPhones and Android phones are being attacked. Millions of spam messages are being sent daily in the US and Europe. These messages are designed to defraud you. Your phone is not secure. Therefore, it is important to remain vigilant and identify these fraudulent messages to avoid being scammed.
Furthermore, Google has stated that Android’s security measures block more spam calls each month, while Apple’s offer less protection. Let’s understand what types of messages spam are and how you could be scammed.
A Forbes report states that these spam messages often include messages like: “Your toll was deducted without payment,” “A package didn’t arrive at your address,” or “Get an immediate refund.” They contain a link. Clicking on these messages could lead to data theft. These messages are created by criminal gangs in China. They are sent from foreign SIM cards to avoid filters. New ones appear as soon as the number is blocked.
Google says Android’s security blocks over one billion spam calls and messages every month. Gmail also blocks 99.9% of spam. However, some messages slip through. Apple added call screening and message filters in iOS 26, which block links and replies. Yet, fraud occurs daily in the US. This is a billion-dollar business. Google’s blog post states that Android is more secure than iPhones, but the data is outdated, predating Apple’s latest update. Pixel phones offer the best security, while Samsung and other Android phones offer less. iPhones offer the same level of security for all.
Android users should not assume everything is safe. The FBI advises deleting spam messages. These are known as smishing. Links expire within a few hours or days but keeping them on your phone is risky. Delete suspicious messages as soon as you see them. Keep the spam filter on in your phone settings. Keep your phone updated. If you click on a message, check your bank and change your password.
