Diwali Bank Holidays 2025: When will banks remain closed in different states? Check state-wise calendar

Official government calendars have marked Diwali 2025 on October 20, means it will be a bank holiday in most parts of the country.

Diwali Bank Holidays 2025: Diwali, the joyous festival of lights is almost upon, marking a five-day long period of festivities starting with Dhanteras on October 18, that concludes with Bhai Dooj on October 23. However, different calendars have marked Diwali on distinct dates this year, triggering doubt about the exact date of the festival and what dates banks will remain closed this month.

Check out the state-wise calendar for bank holidays in October 2025:

• October 18 (Saturday)- Dhanteras: Banks will remain open across the country.
• October 19 (Sunday) – Choti Diwali: Bank holiday (Banks will remain closed nationwide).
• October 20 (Monday) – Diwali: Banks will remain closed in these states;  Tripura, Gujarat, Mizoram, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Assam, Telangana, Arunachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Nagaland, West Bengal, Delhi, Goa, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Himachal Pradesh, and Andhra Pradesh.
• October 22 (Tuesday) – Govardhan Puja: Banks will be closed in these states; Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Sikkim, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar.
• October 23 (Wednesday) – Bhai Dooj: Banks closed in Gujarat, Sikkim, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Himachal Pradesh.
• October 27-28 – Chhath Puja: Banks will remain shuttered in West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand.
• October 31 – Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Jayanti: Bank holiday in Gujarat.

Notably, RBI rules mandate that all banks (private and public) remain closed on Sundays and on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. This year, there’s some confusion about the exact date of Diwali, with some calendars marking the festival on October 20 (Monday), while a few have shown it on October 21 (Tuesday). However, official government calendars have marked Diwali 2025 on October 20, means it will be a bank holiday in most parts of the country.
