Electric cars to bring down fuel to Rs 30 per litre; government pushing for complete electric fleet by 2030
India doesn't want to promote diesel engine vehicles and with an aim to promote electric cars, power minister Piyush Goyal recently said that government is willing to have an all-electric fleet of cars by 2030.
New Delhi, May 25: We all become happy to see fuel prices dip even by a rupee, imagine fuel price as low as rupees 30 per litre. Yes, this unbelievable thing is possible with the help of a new concept called 'self-driven' or electric cars. BusinessToday quoted Tony Seba, a futurist, whose firm belief is that as the technology takes a step further so will our dependency on fuel lessen, bringing down the demand for fuel.
As per experts, with the advancement of technology, the oil price per barrel could come down to $25 a barrel. In the foreign market, there is a concept of electric cars, which are sold in huge numbers, like the Tesla Motors. Also, a concept of hybrid cars prevails abroad.
It's not that India hasn't been introduced to such a concept. With the increasing pollution level, India has started promoting electric vehicles on a war footage. India has an electric car like Reva, along with a hybrid concept introduced by Toyota in the form of its product Prius. Seba has predicted that in five years that scenario will start to roll. He had also predicted a decline in solar tariffs before and it came out to be true as the solar prices after going down were floating at close to Rs 2. Seba was quoted by CNBC saying that the demand for oil will rise from 2020-2021 but will dive down to 70 million barrels within ten years, which means the new price will set itself at $25. Adding on the same note, he asked the interviewer of CNBC to imagine coffee giant Starbucks on wheels. Adding weight to this imagination, he said that as transportation will be so cheap that the coffee makers will find it cheaper to run around and transport one person to an office in exchange for coffee.
Self-driven cars are being tested as of now and it is speculated that technology will soon make them visible on roads.
