Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, is facing big troubles due to Tesla. Tesla, his flagship company, is grappling due to reduced sales, declining stock prices, and growing dissatisfaction among the public in various countries. Amid these challenges, now the question arises, will Musk look at India as a potential market to revive Tesla.

Decline In Tesla Sales And Share Prices

Tesla’s sales have witnessed a significant slowdown this year, with customers increasingly avoiding purchasing its vehicles. This dip in demand has impacted on the company’s stock, which has experienced a steep decline. Tesla’s shares have fallen by approximately 30% this year which is higher than the stock declines of major companies like Google (8%) and Nvidia (18%). Over the past month alone, Tesla’s stock has fell down by 25%.

This financial downturn has also impacted Musk’s net worth. According to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, his wealth has shrunk by $103 billion (over Rs 9 lakh crore) in 2025. Despite this, Musk remains the richest person globally, with a net worth of $330 billion.

Backlash Against Musk

Musk’s close association with former U.S. President Donald Trump has not been well-received by many. His alignment with Trump’s controversial tariff policies and workforce reduction strategies in the U.S. has sparked discontent among people in various countries. In Europe, especially, Tesla has faced backlash, with incidents of vandalism, including fires and shootings, reported at Tesla showrooms.

Tesla’s declining sales vary across regions, further adding the company’s challenges. Public outrage and changing consumer preferences have played a significant role in this downturn.

India:  New Hope For Tesla?

Amid these difficulties, Tesla is preparing to enter the Indian market, seeking to increase its sales and brand image. The company has already secured a location in Mumbai to open its first showroom and has begun recruiting staff in India. Tesla sees India as a potential growth market where it can regain momentum.

However, challenges remain. Discussions between the U.S. and India regarding tariffs on imported cars are yet to reach a resolution. The U.S. is pushing India to eliminate taxes on imported vehicles, but India has not agreed to these terms.

Tesla’s entry into India comes at a critical period as the company hopes to leverage the growing demand for electric vehicles in the region to tackle its problems in other markets. Whether India can provide the much-needed “support for Tesla’s revival can be seen in upcoming months.
