Mohandas Pai, former CFO of Infosys expressed concern over the widening gap of salary structure between company ‘s top officials and employees. He said the entry -level employees have witnessed a meager salary appraisal in the past few years while the board-level and top officials are receiving hefty amounts as appraisal in salary.

Pai said the CEO has witnessed an enormous increase of 50-60% in their salary in the past five years but the entry-level employees have received only 25-30% appraisal in salary.

While sharing his experience during his stay in Infosys, Pai said the entry-level employees were getting Rs 3.25 lakh per annum in 2011 and  currently, Rs 3.50-3.75 lakh per annum is being offered in 2024. It is a mere 15% increase in the last 13 years. He questioned, “Is this justified?” What is the salary of the Chief Operating Officer now and then should also be transparent?

It is not the first time that Pai has raised his concern for the entry-level employees. But he has been stating that the IT companies have been exploiting the entry-level employees for the last ten years. He said these employees have received only 1-2% salary appraisal in the last five years.

However, he also pointed out that due to automation, labour is not required that much, but the companies’ earnings have gone up and the employees are not getting a fair amount as appraisal. He urged companies to be transparent in this regard.
