New Delhi: The Interim Budget 2024 was presented before the Parliament today, on February 1, 2024 by the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. It is the second day of the Parliament Budget Session 2024 today and on the first day, President of India Droupadi Murmu jointly addressed both Houses of the Parliament, marking her first speech in the new Parliament Building. Today, while presenting the Budget, FM Sitharaman expressed confidence about BJP winning the upcoming Lok Sabha Elections 2024 with a ‘clear mandate’ and also specified that the Interim Budget 2024 specially focusses on ‘Garib, Mahilayen, Yuva and Annadata’. Along with the budget points, what caught everyone’s attention was that this was Nirmala Sitharaman’s shortest Budget Speech out of the six she has given till date.
As mentioned earlier, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Interim Budget 2024 before the Houses of the Parliament on Day 2 of the Budget Session 2024. FM Sitharaman’s Budget Speech was her shortest Budget Speech out of all the six speeches she has delivered till date. The Budget Speech 2024 lasted for just 58 minutes, which is less than an hour.
The Budget Speech 2024 by FM Nirmala Sitharaman was the shortest speech given by the Minister in the last six years. While the Budget Speech 2024 was 58 minutes long, the speech in 2023 was one hour and 27 minutes long; the duration of the 2022 Speech was 1 hr 30 mins, the one delivered in 2021 was 1 hr 50 mins long, the Budget Speech 2020 was 2 hr 42 mins long and in 2019, its duration was 2 hr 15 mins.
In her Budget Speech, FM Sitharaman also spoke about Nari Shakti, GDP – Governance, Development and Performance, strategy for Amrit Kaal, PM Awas Yojana Rural and FDI -First Develop India among other things. After presenting the Interim Budget 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Finance Bill 2024 and the Lok Sabha is adjourned now, till 11:00 AM on February 2, 2024.
