Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai is nearing to achieve a milestone, which rarely any non-founder of business do. After taking charge of Google in 2015, Pichai, the company’s stock is rising over 400%, outpacing the S&P 500 and Nasdaq indices. The reason behind the rise is identified as AI-driven growth in Google’s cloud computing unit, which also led to the company’s high performance in first-quarter earnings.
Alphabet rose by 10% and closed with a stock market value above $2 trillion for the first time, according to LSEG data, after the company also announced dividend for investors and a $70 billion stock buyback.
The world’s fourth most valuable firm flirted with the milestone on an intraday basis over three years ago, according to LSEG Datastream.
That rally, alongside hefty stock awards that have made him one of the world’s highest-paid executives, has boosted Pichai’s fortune to nearly $1 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
Sundar Pichai was born and educated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He was fond of playing cricket as a child and won many tournaments as a captain. Sundar Pichai’s family did not have a simple telephone, TV or Car in his childhood. In a two-room house, Sundar did not have his own room & slept in the living room with his brother.
But his father instilled in him an interest in technology & Sundar graduated in Metallurgical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. Pichai got a scholarship to Stanford University in the US due to his extraordinary intelligence. The plane ticket to America was more than his father’s annual salary.
31-year-old Sundar, joined Google in 2004 & worked on Google’s web browser, Google Chrome, Android mobile operating system. In the 11 years, Pichai was promoted four times and eventually became the CEO of Google in 2015.
