Microsoft has confirmed that its India operations will not face layoffs, even as the company makes minor workforce reductions globally, impacting less than 1% of its total workforce based on performance evaluations. Puneet Chandok, President of Microsoft India and South Asia, reassured that the company is actively expanding in India, with more job opportunities being created.
While Microsoft’s global workforce stands at 228,000 employees, its India operations contribute approximately 20,000 employees. Addressing concerns about layoffs, Chandok stated, “No, not in India. We are engaged in so many projects. In fact, for all of India, more jobs are being created.”

The company’s India business has seen robust growth, with a 38.44% increase in net profit, showcasing the success of its cloud and AI services in the region.
Beyond India, Microsoft has announced an $80 billion global investment for FY 2025 to establish AI-enabled data centres worldwide. This highlights the company’s commitment to advancing AI innovation and infrastructure on a global scale.
