Noida: In a matter of good news for the state of Uttar Pradesh, people living in multiple cities of Uttar Pradesh may soon get a major upgrade in daily travel. Until now, metro trains have only been available only in cities like Noida, Lucknow, Kanpur and Agra. However, in the recent update, just like Delhi and Noida, people in smaller Uttar Pradesh (UP) cities may also get to enjoy smooth, fast metro travel. The Uttar Pradesh government is preparing a large-scale plan to bring metro connectivity from big cities to smaller towns across the state.

Uttar Pradesh for Vikasit Bharat @ 2047 workshop

During the Uttar Pradesh for Vikasit Bharat @ 2047 workshop, the Metro Rail Corporation shared details of this ambitious vision. According to Managing Director Sushil Kumar, a 225-km metro network is planned for Lucknow and a 200-km network for Kanpur by 2047.

150-km metro corridors across Uttar Pradesh cities

Similarly, 150-km metro corridors have been proposed for Noida, Greater Noida, Varanasi and Prayagraj. The first phases will cover major routes, and more corridors will be added later. Smaller cities will also join the network. Gorakhpur, Bareilly, Moradabad, Meerut, Jhansi, Ayodhya, Mathura-Vrindavan, Aligarh and Saharanpur are set to get 50-km metro routes each. Moreover, the government is also studying metro possibilities in several other cities.

Therefore, Uttar Pradesh plans to build a 1,575-km metro network by 2047 in total and out of this, around 790 km will be ready by 2035. For this, the state will need to invest nearly Rs 1,527 crore every year across different cities.
