New Delhi, December 18: For the sixth straight term, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has returned to power in Gujarat. The Gujarat assembly elections 2017 witnessed a close contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress. However, the Congress has bettered its seat tally from 2012 elections. In Kangra district, BJP candidate Ravinder Kumar has been elected as the MLA of Jaisinghpur while Arjun Singh, who is again a BJP candidate has been elected as the MLA in Jawali constituency.
In Jaswan-Pragpur, Bikram Singh of BJP has been elected as the MLA with 23583 votes whereas BJP candidate Ramesh Chand Dhawala has been elected as the MLA in Jawalamukhi constituency. In Kangra constituency, Pawan Kumar Kajal has been elected as the MLA of the Indian National Congress with 25549 votes.
The Congress today termed its outing in the Gujarat assembly polls under the stewardship of party president Rahul Gandhi as its “moral victory”. To recall, voting in Gujarat was conducted in two phases on December 9 2017 and 14 December 2017. For the first time in Gujarat elections, a total of 102 polling stations were manned completely by women. It has to be noted that the current 182 member assembly’s term will come to end on 23 January 2018.
