To mark its re-entry into the mid-size segment of the motorcycle market in India, Harley‑Davidson (collaborating with Hero Moto Corp) has just introduced a new variant – Harley‑Davidson X440 T. The second Harley to be based on the 440-platform, after the Harley‑Davidson X440, the T has its own design and styling that should help it to reach a wider audience.
We will get more details – right down to pricing – on the 6 or 7 December 2025, at which point the X440 T will also be launched. As the “T” variant of the X440, it is likely to be a more premium, styling-oriented and feature-rich version in Harley’s Indian range, above the standard X440.
New Look and Updated Ergonomics
The X440 T gets a number of styling updates that make it a distinct, more focused bike than the base model. The new rear profile is one of the biggest changes – the previous setup has been replaced by a monolithic rear fender, for a much chunkier, bull-like tail. The seat has also been redesigned for greater comfort, while pillion riders get large grab handles. Other design updates include bar-end mirrors, blacked-out front fenders, as well as a new tank livery with racing pin-striping. The X440 T is available in four colours; two of these are new and not offered on the X440.
Visually, the X440 T seems to take direct inspiration from the heritage-flat track model Harley‑Davidson XR1200; in a not-so-subtle nod to Harley’s global design language.
Powertrain Largely As Expected
Mechanically, the X440 T doesn’t disappoint, staying true to the virtues that made the X440 a success in the first place. It features the same 440 cc, single-cylinder, air/oil-cooled engine, good for a maximum power output of 27 bhp and 38 Nm of peak torque.
Joining it is a six-speed gearbox – which is also expected to retain the flexibility for city as well as highway use that the X440 already offered. The chassis is a steel trellis frame – giving structural rigidity while balancing agility and stability.
Suspension, Brakes and Dynamics
The X440 T also uses the 43 mm USD (upside-down) front forks and gas-charged twin rear shocks of the X440, for a comfortable ride over various road surfaces. Disc brakes at both ends provide safety and consistent stopping power.
No word yet on the exact wheel sizes, but these are expected to remain the same as on the X440.
The Significance of the X440 T for the Indian Market
The X440 was Harley and Hero’s first motorcycle collaboration, launched in July 2023. It was Harley’s first entry-level offering in India; made with the clear intention of getting the Harley badge and mid-size performance at a very attractive price point. It was positioned for first-time riders who wanted to buy into the Harley brand and be a part of the larger Harley-Davidson community.
The X440 T looks like an effort by Harley to double down on the same idea, but with a more personal, stylish and urban-oriented attitude. The changes to the design language and ergonomics mean that the X440 T could also appeal to first-time buyers looking for a Harley – or simply for a cruiser that stands out in city traffic.
The X440 T’s festive season launch should help to boost Harley’s presence in the 440-cc segment. That is a strong selling-point, at a time when there are a number of competitors – including in-house rivals – in the 350–450 cc displacement class.
As we look forward to the rollout of the X440 T across India, the motorcycle community will keep a close eye on whether the design and brand statement is backed by performance and ownership satisfaction in real-world conditions.
