New Delhi: Almost every student desires to live the American Dream, the life that bears the testimonials and success stories of thousands of migrants who have made a fortune in the country. For this purpose, students start planning much ahead of time. They are confident that once they land in the USA, they will be selected by the most prestigious companies. Some of them even take loans worth lakhs of rupees.

How is the job market currently in America?

However, before getting a degree in the USA, it is important to understand the job market here. At present, there is a phase of layoffs in America. Most of the jobs are closed in the tech sector, due to which students are also worried.

Companies are not hiring people quickly. It is even more difficult for foreign students to get a job. Students are sharing this problem daily on social media platforms. In this episode, a student posted on Reddit, “I feel like I am drowning while looking for a job as a foreign student on OPT,” according to an NBT report.

After getting a degree in the USA, foreign students are allowed to work for one year under Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Going through my worst phase right now, says job seeker

The student said that he got his degree in May, and he also has experience, but he is still waiting to get a job. In his post, he wrote, “I am going through my worst phase right now. I graduated in May 2025, and I am currently on OPT. I also have three years of experience as a software engineer. I am currently doing a non-stipend internship so that things keep going, but I have been looking for a full-time job since January.”

Companies are not ready to give sponsorship

Sharing his grief, the student said, “I have applied for more than 4000 jobs. Sent more than 1000 cold emails and sent more than 100 LinkedIn DMs. Out of all these, I have had only a few interviews, and those too ended with rejection.”

He said that companies are not ready to give sponsorship, adding, “Some companies tell me that they cannot sponsor, some remove me from the job midway because they found someone else. Sometimes I just mess up because the pressure gets the better of me.”
