New Delhi: There is much much-awaited update on the Noida International Airport at Jewar. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday, 27 November 2025, visited the under-construction complex and conducted a detailed on-site inspection. Later, he held a high-level meeting with senior officials. CM Adityanath, during the review, noted that the airport is yet to receive its aerodrome license and issued directions to the officials to urgently coordinate with security agencies and complete all pending compliance work.
According to an earlier report by the HT, the airport is set to receive its aerodrome license by November 30.
“The Noida International Airport is an ambitious project of the state. Any remaining security or operational requirements must be completed at the earliest and with the highest standards of quality,” said the UP CM.
Construction is progressing rapidly, to complete the first phase of the airport by December 2025.
Jewar Airport is set to become Delhi-NCR’s second international airport. Located 75 km from Delhi, this airport will significantly reduce the pressure on Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). It will also be a major relief for millions of travellers in western Uttar Pradesh.
Jewar Airport is a mega greenfield airport project that aims to establish India’s largest aviation hub with modern facilities, high-tech systems, and a sustainable model. This airport will become a major hub for cargo, logistics, and passenger traffic.
The construction of the airport has been entrusted to Tata Projects. The company is handling the entire engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) project. The large machinery on site, thousands of workers, and rapidly progressing infrastructure make it one of the country’s most high-profile projects.
Although discussions for Jewar Airport began during the 2010 Commonwealth Games, construction was stalled due to numerous obstacles. Prime Minister Narendra Modi finally laid the foundation stone in November 2021, and the first phase of construction began in June 2022.
The airport is being built in four phases. The first phase will consist of two runways. The plan is to transform the airport into India’s largest airport with six runways.
The CAT-III B Instrument Landing System is being installed at Jewar Airport. This system will allow aircraft to land comfortably even in dense fog or bad weather. This facility is part of the modern technology at the IGI Airport.
The construction of Jewar Airport will lead to significant economic growth in the region. It is estimated that more than 100,000 direct and indirect jobs will be created. Rapid growth of real estate, hotels, IT parks, and industrial areas will be witnessed in the vicinity.
This was CM Adityanath’s second review of the project after October 25. Construction work is in its final stages, the roofing of the passenger terminal is complete and multiple technical trials are in progress.
The current phase one covers around 1,300 hectares, with one runway and a terminal building. This airport is being developed under a public-private partnership by Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International AG.
Operations at the Jewar Airport are expected to begin by the end of the year; the official launch date for phase one is yet to be announced.
