IRCTC News: The Indian Railways has decided to cut the advance reservation period (ARP) for train bookings from 120 days to 60 days, according to the official press release. This excludes the day of travel. It is important to note that these changes will come into effect from November 1, 2024.

The Railways clarified that bookings made under the current 120-day ARP before October 31 will remain valid. It also stated that any cancellations for bookings made beyond the new 60-day ARP will still be allowed.

Indian Railways New Rules:

• Indian Railways has decided to cut the advance reservation period (ARP) for train bookings from 120 days to 60 days.
• These changes will come into effect from November 1, 2024.
• Bookings made under the current 120-day ARP before October 31 will remain valid
• Any cancellations for bookings made beyond the new 60-day ARP will still be allowed.
• The revised changes do not apply to certain daytime express trains, such as the Taj Express and Gomti Express, which have different advance reservation limits.
• The 365-day advance booking option for foreign tourists will remain unchanged

With the introduction of the new booking system, the passengers will be able to plan their travel more conveniently. Previously, the Railways allowed this facility up to 120 days, or four months, in advance of the journey date. However, the new rules have reduced this window by half.

The new rule will reportedly come into effect from November 1, 2024, and will not impact the passengers who have already booked their tickets. However, there will be no change in rules in the case of some day-time express trains, where a shorter time limit for advance reservation is currently applicable.
