Just a few months after introducing the iPhone 17 series, Apple is now preparing to release the iPhone 18 series. If media reports are to be believed, the tech company is expected to launch the iPhone 18 series by September 2026. It is speculated that Apple might introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max alongside its first foldable iPhone.
When is Apple likely to launch the iPhone 18 Pro lineup?
A recent leak shows that there are likely to be some major design differences on the new iPhone 18 Series compared to the 17 Series. Also, with the iPhone 18 Pro Series, we can expect to see bigger changes in camera hardware and an all-new chipset. Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series may not make a dramatic entrance, but leaks indicate it could represent a pivotal evolution for the iPhone lineup.
Which changes or upgrades are expected in the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max?
Early reports reveal subtle updates to the front design, significant advancements in camera technology, and a major overhaul in chip architecture that promises to boost both performance and battery life. These developments suggest that the 2026 Pro models could set a new benchmark for Apple’s smartphones, blending refined aesthetics with enhanced functionality.
A report by The Information, based on reports from sources Wayne Ma and Qianer Liu, indicates that Apple is going to reposition Face ID underneath the display of the iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone 18 Pro. Should the change occur, there will no longer be the pill-shaped dynamic island cutout that has characterized the form factor of recent iPhones. If implemented as planned, this change would allow for a smaller notch than ever before on the iPhone’s display, improving the user experience significantly. Additionally, the iPhone will resemble a front-facing Android smartphone for the first time, as per several media reports.
It is reported that the front-facing camera will be relocated to a tiny hole in the upper left corner of the screen, which lends to having less distraction on the display and provides a more elegant uninterrupted view. The overall body design is expected to be similar to that of the iPhone 17 Pro, indicating enhanced and improved features over the current design rather than major redesign efforts.
Although the front design of the iPhone 18 may appear to be less complicated, the camera system on the rear of the device has been given a considerable amount of focus by Apple. According to the media reports, Apple’s newest Pro line iPhones will feature one or more mechanical iris-based rear-facing cameras, therefore providing users with a method of controlling the variable aperture.
Earlier, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had echoed in the similar direction and stated that the main camera (which contains 48 megapixels) may feature a variable aperture, allowing users to control how much light enters the lens. If implemented, this would mark a major shift from the fixed f/1.78 aperture that Apple has used on Pro-series iPhones since the iPhone 14 Pro.
