This, in turn, forced the other telcos to slash their tariff rates to what would be described as a ‘Reliance Jio effect’. To start with, Jio launched the Welcome Offer that provided an opportunity to every Indian to learn, try, customise and experience high-quality digital services, without paying for the services up to 31 December. If we look at offers provided by other telcos, no telecom operator has ever come up with such lucrative offers that Jio has launched so far. Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has brought a parity among pre-paid and post-paid consumers. Along with the Jio 4G, the company also launched a number of other services like JioTV etc, My Jio App, etc.

In the company’s recent AGM in July this year, Ambani announced the launch of ‘intelligent smartphone’. He said the company plans to sell 5 million JioPhones every week. The pre-booking of JioPhones started on August 24 against payment of a refundable deposit of Rs 500 and the remainder Rs 1,000 has to be paid by the customer when the company starts delivering them in September. It has been reported that around 6 million units of JioPhone were booked within three days of its pre-booking that started on August 24. The JioPhone supports 22 Indian languages and comes pre-loaded with applications like Jio Cinema, Jio Music and others will offer free voice calls and SMS to customers. For 4G data, customers need to pay Rs 153 per month.
