Link PAN to Aadhaar Card in 5 Simple Steps; How to Link PAN And Aadhaar in Case of Mismatch in Name
In case there is a lot of difference in PAN and Aadhaar card details, the linking process will not go through. To proceed further you either need to change Aadhaar or the PAN database.
You need to link your PAN with Aadhaar card while filing income tax return (ITR) this year and the last day to link the two is June 30. Previously the deadline to link the two was March 31, 2018.

According to latest statistics, 16. 65 crore Aadhaar cards have been linked with Permanent Account Number (PAN) as on March 5. Considering the number a lot many still remains to be linked.
We tell you how to link the two but first things first: What is the significance of these numbers.
Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a 10-digit alphanumeric number used for tracking your financial transactions. It is issued by the Income Tax Department. Aadhaar card is issued by Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Government of India. It is a 12-digit number and the purpose is to establish identity, based on demographic and biometric information of the person.
The last deadline was issued post the Supreme Court direction that linking of Aadhaar card with financial services should be postponed until its final judgement. Government agencies, however, such as income tax department, passport and property registration, still ask for Aadhaar number for verification purposes.
Step by step guide to link PAN card to Aadhaar Card:
• Log in to the website of the Income Tax Department: https://incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/
• Register and go to Profile Setting on the dashboard’s menu bar to click on “Link Aadhar” option.

• Details such as name date of birth and gender should already be keyed in according to details submitted at the time of registration.

• Enter your Aadhaar card number and captcha code and click on the “Link now” button- provided all the details match.
• A pop-up message will show up to inform you Aadhaar and PAN card card has been successfully linked.
How to Link Aadhaar-PAN in case of Mismatch
In case of a minor, a One Time Password (OTP) is sent to you on the mobile number, which is registered with Aadhaar. The OTP is used for the purpose of name verification. But there should be no variation in date of birth and gender details.

You can log on to https://uidai.gov.in/ and Click on ‘Update Aadhaar Details’
It is good to link your PAN with Aadhaar as you can e-verify your IT returns and you do not need to submit your ITR-V to the department. It also keeps a check that multiple PAN cards are not issued on your name.
