Major Changes In October: Just two more days and September will end, and October will begin. The new month is set to begin with several major changes that will directly impact the people of the country. The major changes include LPG cylinder prices, pension rules, UPI rules, railway ticket booking (online), and upcoming bank holidays. Let’s know about these five major changes that will come into effect from October 1.
Notably, every month begins with financial changes and October also witness major changes that will directly impact the common people of the country. People associated with National Pension System (NPS), Unified Pension Scheme (UPS), Atal Pension Yojana (APY) and NPS Lite will be directly affected in October.
The prices of LPG cylinders directly impact the people and a slight increase in their price can impact several prices of several things. It is worth noting that oil marketing companies have changed the prices of 19 kg gas cylinders or commercial cylinders, but the prices of 14 kg LPG cylinders have not changed for a long time. The price of the 14kg cylinder was last changed on April 8. Additionally, the prices of ATF and CNG-PNG can also be revised.
To prevent fraud in the booking of railway tickets, the railway ministry is going to make some major changes in online ticket. In order to prevent fraud in the online ticket booking, the Railways has decided to give priority to passengers who have verified and linked their Aadhar card with it. These passengers will get priority in the first 15 minutes after the reservation opens. It means these people will get the 15 minutes window to book online tickets soon after the reservation starts, just like tatkal tickets booking. Afte 15 minutes, normal people will be able to book tickets online.
Pensioners who are enrolled under NPS, UPS, Atal Pension Yojana, and NPS Lite will be directly affected with this rule. The Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority has amended the fees charged by Central Recordkeeping Agencies (CRAs). The decision will come into effect from October 1, 2025.
It is worth noting that the fees of Rs 18 for an e-PRAN kit and Rs 40 for a physical PRAN card will be charged from the government employees (while opening a new PRAN).
The employees will also be charged an annual maintenance fee of Rs 100 per account. However, there is no charge on transactions.
National Payments Corporation of India is expected to remove peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions. Notably, it is one of the most commonly used UPI features and is going to affect several people. This feature will be removed from UPI apps from October 1. This step will strengthen user security and prevent financial fraud.
There are 21 bank holidays (as per RBI calendar) in the entire month of October. Starting with Durga Puja holiday. Bank holidays include – Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, Dussehra, Lakshmi Puja, Maharishi Valmiki Jayanti, Karva Chauth, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, Bhai Dooj and Chhath Puja. These holidays also include the second and fourth Saturdays as well and Sundays. However, bank holidays may vary in different states and cities.
