New Delhi: In India, regional preferences extend beyond just culinary tastes to flavored condoms as well. In a recent episode of the podcast Figuring Out With Raj Shamani, Mankind Pharma MD Rajeev Juneja shared that different parts of the country have unique choices when it comes to condom flavors. Manforce, the Delhi-based arm of pharmaceutical giant Mankind Pharma, claims to be India’s best-selling and largest condom brand.
Rajeev Juneja said that although paan-flavored condoms sold the least in India, it had a “huge market” in one particular state in North India, which is Uttar Pradesh. “Paan ek particular zone hai jahan bikta hai. Jasmin south mein bohut bikta hai. South mein log pasand karte hai jasmin ko (Paan flavour condoms only sell in a particular zone, while Jasmine-flavored flavoured condom is liked most by people in the south). They like flowers,” the Mankind Pharma MD told Raj Shamani.
While discussing condom preferences in East and West India on the podcast, Rajeev Juneja mentioned that people in these regions are “very cosmopolitan” and open to all options. The Mankind Pharma MD further revealed that flavors like kala khatta and sabudana were merely marketing gimmicks and buzz-generating campaigns rather than actual product launches.
During the podcast, Rajeev Juneja was asked about whether condom sales were the highest during Navratri in Gujarat. He confirmed the claims stating, “Yes, in Gujarat, they have garba. It is like a mela and full of fun. So, yes, during this time, sales increase.”
A 2016 report from The Economic Times claimed that condom sales typically increase by 25-50 percent, especially in pharmacies and chemists near Navratri dance venues.
