Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) said on Wednesday that it is recalling 1,279 units of new Swift and Dzire models due to a possible fault in the airbag controller units.
MSI said in a communication to customers on its website that 1279 vehicles -566 new Swift and 713 new Dzire- manufactured between 7th May 2018 and 5th July 2018 will be recalled for inspection of the airbag controller unit.
This is not the first time that recall campaigns are undertaken. They are carried worldwide to rectify faults that may be potential safety defects.
Starting 25th July 2018 owners of the vehicles included in this recall campaign will be contacted by Maruti Suzuki dealers for inspection and replacement of the faulty part free of cost.
If you are an owner of new Swift or new Dzire then you can visit the company’s website and fill in the chassis number (For new Swift – MBH and for new Dzire – MA3 followed by 14 digit alpha-numeric number) on the computer screen to check the status of your car. The chassis number is embossed on the vehicle ID plate and is also in the vehicle invoice/registration documents.
Before this in May MSI asked customers of 52,686 new Swift and Baleno models to undertake a service campaign to inspect for a possible fault in brake vacuum hose.
New Swift and Baleno units manufactured between December 1, 2017 and March 16, 2018 were covered in that campaign.
Automobile manufacturers in India follow a voluntary recall policy adopted by industry body SIAM in July 2012 under which if a company is of the opinion that there is a manufacturing defect that compromises safety of vehicles, it will voluntarily rectify the problem free of cost to the customer.
