Shares of Reliance Power Limited, a company engaged in developing and operating power projects globally, surged 5% intraday after the announcement of a Rs 10,000 crore investment in solar power initiatives in Andhra Pradesh.
Reliance Power shares, which boast a market capitalization of Rs 16,457.53 crores, touched an intraday high of Rs 41.21 per share, marking a 5% gain. The stock later traded at Rs 40.97, up 4.38% from its previous close of Rs 39.25. Over the past year, Reliance Power delivered a 36.47% return, outperforming the Nifty Index.
The stock’s rally was driven by the company’s plans to invest over Rs 10,000 crore in a solar power plant and solar manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh. The project is managed by Reliance NU Suntech Private Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Power. It includes a battery storage capacity of 1,860 MWh and a solar power plant of 930 MW.
The company aims to commence the project after securing a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). Plans are also underway to establish a composite solar facility in Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh.
Reliance Power focuses on comprehensive construction and engineering services, with expertise in infrastructure projects, residential developments, and commercial buildings.
Despite a year-on-year decline in revenue from Rs 2,038 crore in Q2FY24 to Rs 1,760 crore in Q2FY25, the company reported a significant profit increase. This turnaround was attributed to an exceptional gain of Rs 3,230.42 crore from the deconsolidation of a subsidiary, transforming a loss of Rs 238 crore into a profit of Rs 2,878 crore.
Reliance Power operates with a total generation capacity of 5,300 MW, which includes Thermal Power: 5,300 MW and Renewable Energy: 140 MW. It handles key projects like Rosa Coal-Based Power Project of 1,200 MW and Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project of 3,960 MW.Rajasthan Solar Projects with 40 MW solar photovoltaic plant and 100 MW concentrated solar power plant.
The announcement not only reflects the company’s commitment to sustainable energy but also strengthens its long-term growth prospects.
