Reliance Industries has made a strategic appointment to boost its New Mobility business by bringing on Ashish Tarte as the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). With a mandate to oversee key technological advancements, Tarte will play a crucial role in driving cutting-edge innovations in areas like Mobility as a Service (MaaS), Battery as a Service (BaaS), and Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engines (H2ICE). His focus will be on supporting sustainable mobility solutions, which will be vital for Reliance’s ambitious plans in India.
Ashish Tarte has officially taken office as the CTO of Reliance New Mobility. In his new role, Tarte will report to Nitin Seth, CEO of Reliance New Mobility, and will operate out of the company’s Bengaluru division. His primary responsibility will be to lead Reliance’s efforts in advanced mobility technologies that will help shape the future of sustainable transport in the country.
Tarte has over 30 years of experience in electric vehicle (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) product and technology development. Prior to joining Reliance, he served as COO and CTO of Lectrix EV (SAR Group), where he played a key role in launching the born-electric 2W LXS platform and the Andaaz e-rickshaw. He also held the position of Vice President—Product Development & CDMM (Component Development and Material Management) at Mahindra Electric.
At Mahindra Electric (now Mahindra Last Mile Mobility), Tarte was instrumental in the development of some of the company’s most iconic EV products, including the e2O, e2O Plus, and the Treo 3-wheeler platform. His work in this role established him as a key figure in India’s electric mobility space. Before his tenure at Mahindra Electric, Tarte served as COO at Sonalika Group’s International Cars & Motors Ltd (ICML), where he looked after the development of the Rhino Rx MUV, a significant milestone for the company.
Tarte began his career in 1994 at Mahindra & Mahindra’s Vehicle Engineering R&D department in Nasik. During his early years, he contributed to major projects like the development of the Marshal, Maxx, and Bolero vehicles. His experience spans both electric and traditional internal combustion engines, positioning him well to drive innovations in the rapidly evolving fields of electric and hydrogen mobility.
