Traditionally this sector was dominated by foreign companies. Ratan Tata led Tata Group company is leading this initiative. Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) announced on Monday, September 30, a strategic partnership with the Royal Armed Forces of Morocco to manufacture the Wheel Armored Platform (WhAP).
This move can also impact China as Tata Group company is going to make armored vehicles for the Moroccan army. It is also a big move for any Indian company as it is going to establish a defense factory in foreign land for the first time.
Boost For ‘Make In India’ Campaign
This move is seen as a major success for the ‘Make in India’ campaign, showcasing India’s growing capability in the defense manufacturing sector. TASL believes that this partnership will open doors to similar ventures in other African countries. The WhAP, an armored vehicle, has been developed in collaboration with the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Tata Motors.

This initiative will establish Morocco’s first major defense manufacturing plant and mark the first time an Indian Defense Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) will set up a production unit outside India.
