New Delhi: The festive season has begun in India, with markets across the country are buzzing with various activities. The traders have also braced themselves for this season. According to the reports, the Diwali sales are expected to reach Rs 4.75 lakh crore this year, which will be a new record. The sales will primarily include Indian-made goods. This information was shared by Praveen Khandelwal, General Secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT).
According to Khandelwal, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call for ‘Vocal for Local’ and the massive reduction in GST rates have driven this growth. The Indian products are dominating the market pushing the Chinese goods out of the market. This has become a new identity of indigenous trade.
Earlier, Praveen Khandelwal, General Secretary of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) and MP from Chandni Chowk, addressed a press conference where he stated that according to a survey, there are two major reasons behind the sales boom this year. The first reason is Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for swadeshi.
The second reason is the recent major reduction in GST rates. This reduction has proved to be like a festive gift for both traders and consumers.
A small exhibition was also organized during the press conference. It featured around 30 stalls showcasing swadeshi festive products made by women entrepreneurs. The quality of Indian products at the exhibition was excellent, and their prices were also quite reasonable.
Khandelwal said, “CAIT is running a national campaign called ‘Bhartiya Saamaan – Hamara Swabhimaan’ (Indian Goods – Our Pride). Under this campaign, this Diwali will be celebrated as ‘Apni Diwali – Bharatiya Diwali’.”
There has been a significant drop in demand for Chinese products. Since the Galwan Valley clash in 2020, both traders and consumers have firmly resolved to boycott Chinese products. As a result, this Diwali, Chinese goods are almost absent from the market. Importers have completely stopped bringing in Diwali-related items from China. This marks a major shift.
