Amidst the booming billionaire scape in India, which is predominantly populated by men, a few women stand out among the crowd and even dominate the scene in many sectors. One shining example is our today’s success story of Radha Vembu, a self-made billionaire from Chennai, Tamil Nadu, who runs a company valued at Rs 8,703 crore, and boasts a personal net worth of a whopping Rs 47,500 crore.
Regarded as the richest person in Chennai and the wealthiest self-made billionaire businesswoman in India, Radha Vembu was born in Chennai on December 24, 1972. At present Vembu runs the Zoho Corporation, a global leader in software solutions, with revenue pegged at Rs 8,703 crore.
Radha Vembu completed her schooling at the prestigious National Higher Secondary School in her hometown of Chennai and later earned a bachelors degree in Industrial Management from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in 1997. Notably, Radha Vembu founded the now-flourishing Zoho Corporation in 1996, even before she had completed her IIT degree.
A true entrepreneur at heart, Radha Vembu, alongside her brother, Sridhar Vembu founded AdventNet in 1996, which would later become the Zoho Corporation, a software giant which is regarded as a global leader in the field. Radha’s foresight bore fruit as the Zoho Corporation continued to grow by leaps and bounds over the years and currently has an estimated annual revenue of Rs Rs 8,703 crore.
Radha Vembu, the co-founder of Zoho Corporation, currently serves as its CEO, and the company has witnessed exponential growth under her visionary leadership, according to industry insiders. The Zoho Corporation has its headquarters in Chennai.
Notably, besides her duties towards Zoho, Radha Vembu is also the director of real estate firm Highland Valley Corporation Pvt Ltd, and Janaki Hi-Tech Agro Pvt Ltd, an NGO geared towards agriculture.
Over the past decade, India has witnessed a exponential rise in the number of billionaires in the country with 334 people added to the list so far in 2024, 75 more than what was seen in 2023.
