Aravind Srinivas, a rising star in the tech world, is making waves with his impressive career trajectory and entrepreneurial ventures. An IIT-Madras graduate and the CEO of Perplexity AI, Srinivas has been in the spotlight recently for his notable achievements and high-profile interactions, including a viral meeting with Google CEO Sundar Pichai.

Srinivas recently made headlines when he challenged Elon Musk, the world’s richest man,to stop him from raising funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)

On Tuesday, Srinivas met Sundar Pichai at the AI Action Summit in Paris, an event co-chaired by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron. Sharing a photo of their meeting on X (formerly Twitter), Srinivas wrote, “Great meeting you Sundar Pichai.” The photograph went viral, sparking debate across social media platforms. 

Some of the netizens while commenting pointed out their shared background from Tamil Nadu, in India. Sundar Pichai, born in Madurai and raised in Chennai, is an alumnus of IIT-Kharagpur, while Srinivas, born in Chennai two decades later, graduated from IIT-Madras. Their interaction led to speculation about potential collaborations.

Who is Aravind Srinivas?

Aravind Srinivas is a co-founder and CEO of Perplexity AI, an innovative AI-powered search engine founded in 2022. He is an alumnus of IIT-Madras, where he completed a dual degree in electrical engineering in 2017. He later earned a PhD in computer science from the University of California, Berkeley.

Srinivas has a good background in AI research and development, with experience at top organizations like OpenAI, Google, and DeepMind. He began his career as a research intern at OpenAI in 2018 before moving to Google (2020-2021) and later to DeepMind. In 2021, he returned to OpenAI as a research scientist.

Under Srinivas’s leadership, Perplexity AI has gained significant attention and funding from prominent investors, including Jeff Bezos. The startup focuses on revolutionizing the search engine landscape with advanced AI capabilities, positioning itself as a major player in the AI sector.
