TS Kalyanaraman, now 77, comes from a family with roots in the textile business. He was born into a family of Hindu priests, he started working in his family’s textile store in South India at a young age. His grandfather had established the store nearly a century ago. Kalyanaraman worked in the family business until 1993, learning the fundamentals of retail and entrepreneurship. He is a graduate in commerce from Sri Kerala Varma College in Thrissur.
Birth Of Kalyan Jewellers
In 1993, Kalyanaraman decided to branch out and started his own jewelry business, founding Kalyan Jewellers. Over the years, he expanded the company into a massive jewelry retail chain, which now boasts 277 outlets across India and the Middle East.
TS Kalyanaraman’s Journey
As of February 2025, the market capitalization of Kalyan Jewellers stands at Rs 53,703 crore. Kalyanaraman’s personal net worth is estimated at $3.8 billion (Rs 32,964 crore). In 2014, global private equity firm Warburg Pincus invested in Kalyan Jewellers, a significant milestone in the company’s growth story. Seven years later, in 2021, Kalyan Jewellers debuted on the stock market, further strenthening its position as a retail powerhouse.
Kalyanaraman’s two sons, Rajesh and Ramesh, also play pivotal roles in the company and are members of its board. Together, they have taken over Kalyan Jewellers to its current stature as one of India’s leading jewelry brands.

Kalyanaraman Philanthropic Work
In August 2024, Kalyanaraman acquired an additional 2.4% stake in Kalyan Jewellers from Warburg Pincus, reflecting his continued confidence in the company. Beyond business, he has a strong commitment to philanthropy. Kalyanaraman donated $3 million to Habitat for Humanity India, funding the construction of 2,000 homes for low-income families.
