Mufti has become a well-recognized name in Indian fashion, standing out in the mid-premium and premium menswear market. The parent company, Credo Brands Marketing Limited, boasts a market capitalization of Rs. 1,150 crore. Across the country, Mufti operates 379 exclusive brand stores. But did you know this iconic brand began with just Rs. 10,000? And that amount was borrowed. This is about the story of Mufti’s founder, c, who exemplifies the power of big dreams.
Born into a modest family, Kamal faced significant challenges early in life. At the age of 19, he lost his father, leaving the family in financial distress. To support his family, Kamal took a job at a cassette company. Yet, he harbored a different dream—to create his own fashion brand. With relentless hard work, dedication, and vision, Kamal turned his dream into reality.
Today, Mufti is not just a brand but a symbol of struggle, passion, and success. In 1992, Kamal started his journey by launching a shirt-making company called Mr & Mr. For this venture, he borrowed Rs. 10,000 from his aunt. With no money to rent an office, his home served as both his workspace and warehouse. Kamal managed every aspect of the business—from designing and manufacturing shirts to selling them—personally overseeing each step.
Kamal Khushlani’s business was running smoothly, but he was far from content. He believed that with greater effort and focus, he could make a significant mark in the fashion industry. Determined to bring his vision to life, Kamal launched the Mufti brand in 1998. The beginning was modest—Kamal had only a bike, which he used to transport clothes to workshops and later deliver finished garments to retailers. With no office or staff, he personally carried a suitcase filled with clothing, visiting stores to sell his products.
As time went on, Mufti began gaining recognition. The brand’s breakthrough moment came after 2000 when it stood out in a market flooded with similar products. Breaking the monotony, Mufti became the first Indian brand to introduce stretch jeans for men. This innovative product was an instant hit with customers. Gradually, Mufti opened exclusive brand outlets and secured a presence in major multi-brand stores.
Today, Mufti operates 379 exclusive brand stores, 89 large-format stores, and 1,305 multi-brand outlets across India. Its product range includes shirts, jeans, trousers, T-shirts, shorts, blazers, and winterwear. The company sources fabrics from leading suppliers such as Arvind Mills, KG Denim, NSL, and Mafatlal, cementing its reputation as a leading player in the fashion industry.
