Sahil Pandita, the founder of Promiller, is a testament to how grit and determination can turn a challenging life into a success story. He started his entrepreneurial journey in 2018, founding a company that helps hotel owners track their daily operations and cash flow. In the financial year 2023-24, Promiller generated a revenue of Rs 2.5 crore.
Born into a Kashmiri Pandit family, Sahil’s early life was fraught with struggles. During the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits, his family faced significant hardships. His father, a government bank employee in Srinagar, lost his job, forcing the family to relocate multiple times before settling in a village near Chandigarh.
As a child, Sahil was more inclined toward practical work than academics. After completing the 10th grade, he shocked his family by dropping out of school. Although his parents enrolled him in a mechanical engineering diploma course in Pune, he left after three months, realizing it wasn’t his calling.
In 2011, Sahil’s family moved to Hubli, Karnataka. Determined to earn money, Sahil pursued his 12th-grade education through the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) while simultaneously searching for a job. Despite his fluency in English, he opted to work at the Clarks Inn Hotel in Hubli, earning Rs 5,200 per month as part of a hotel operations trainee program.
Sahil’s duties were far from glamorous. He cleaned toilets, washed dishes, carried luggage, chopped vegetables, and performed housekeeping tasks. Later, he joined Denison Hotel and moved to Bengaluru in search of better opportunities. In 2012, he landed a job as a front office assistant at ITC Hotels.
Living conditions in Bengaluru were challenging. Sahil shared a room with 14 other individuals, with only one bathroom. The space was infested with bedbugs, and after 14-15 hour shifts, he often preferred sleeping in the hotel’s bunkers rather than returning to his cramped room.
While working at ITC Hotels, Sahil proactively learned about other departments, gaining insights into hotel operations. His dedication earned him a spot at the ITC Hospitality Management Institute, where he received free training, a stipend, meals, and practical work experience.
After completing the program, he joined ITC Hotels’ Welcome Lead program and, in 2014, secured a team lead position at Hyatt Regency Delhi with a monthly salary of Rs 30,000. Within four months, he was promoted to shift manager. In January 2016, Sahil joined Taj Hotels as a duty manager.
At just 22, Sahil began working for a prestigious asset management firm in December 2016. His role involved managing multiple properties, data handling, financial management, and audits. Gaining valuable experience, he decided to pursue his entrepreneurial dreams.
In January 2018, Sahil founded Promiller, a hotel asset management company providing advisory services to hotel owners. Since its inception, the company has grown steadily, generating significant revenue and carving a niche in the hospitality industry.
