He is the only billionaire from Nepal. He first appeared on the Forbes list in 2013 and is currently ranked 1763rd on the world’s richest list.
Binod Chaudhary’s family is linked to Fatehpur in Shekhawati, Rajasthan (India). His grandfather migrated from Rajasthan to Nepal decades ago and started the foundation of the family’s business. The family began with textiles and later expanded into construction and other industries. Binod Chaudhary was born in Kathmandu into a Marwari business family and was influenced by his upbringing to become an entrepreneur.
A turning point in his life came during a trip to Thailand, where he noticed the popularity of instant noodles. This inspired him to launch Wai Wai noodles in Nepal, which soon became popular in India and other international markets. Despite Maggi’s dominance in India, Wai Wai made its own space with its unique taste, variety, and ease of preparation.
Apart from business, Chaudhary is also known for his philanthropy. Over the years, he has built a vast business empire while continuing to contribute to society.
Inspired by Ratan Tata, he is known for his company that makes the famous ‘Wai Wai’ noodles. Chaudhary’s wealth is estimated at over Rs 15,000 crore.
