Reliance Industries, led by India’s richest man Mukesh Ambani, is home to many top executives, but none earns more than Nikhil Meswani, a close associate of Ambani and a key leader in the company. His annual salary of Rs 24 crore surpasses that of any Ambani family member, making him the highest-paid employee of the conglomerate.
Mukesh Ambani, with a net worth exceeding $106 billion, oversees one of India’s largest business empires. However, he has chosen not to draw a salary from Reliance Industries in recent years. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Ambani received an annual remuneration of ₹15 crore, a figure he voluntarily gave up in 2021 to support the company during its recovery period.
Nikhil Meswani, a veteran at Reliance Industries, plays a pivotal role in the company’s petrochemical division and sports ventures. His annual salary of ₹24 crore not only highlights his importance within the organization but also positions him as the highest-paid employee, surpassing any Ambani family member’s earnings.
Nikhil and his brother Hital Meswani, both close to Mukesh Ambani, are integral to Reliance’s operations. Their influence stems from a long-standing family connection, as their father, Rasikbhai Meswani, was a key figure in Reliance’s early days.
The Meswani family’s association with Reliance dates back to its inception. Rasikbhai Meswani, a nephew of Dhirubhai Ambani, was one of the original directors of the company and instrumental in managing its polyester business. He played a critical role in Mukesh Ambani’s early career, serving as his first mentor and supervisor.
Nikhil Meswani joined Reliance Industries in 1986 and has been a Whole-time Director since July 1, 1988. Starting as a project officer, much like Mukesh Ambani, he climbed the ranks through hard work and dedication. His expertise in the petrochemical sector has helped establish Reliance as a global leader in the industry.
Beyond petrochemicals, Nikhil has been instrumental in overseeing the company’s expansion into sports, contributing to Reliance’s diverse portfolio and continued success.
