Ratan Tata, whose personal wealth is estimated at over Rs 10,000 crore, allocated a portion of his assets to his brother Jimmy Tata, his half-sisters Shireen and Deanna Jejeebhoy, and others close to him. A significant share of his wealth will go to his foundation, The Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation (RTEF), in line with the Tata Group’s tradition of philanthropy. The foundation will focus on various charitable activities, under the expected leadership of N Chandrasekaran, the current chairman of Tata Sons.
Tata’s food preferences included authentic Parsi dishes like khatta-meetha masoor dal, mutton pulao dal, and baked custard, as well as sushi, dosas, pav bhaji, and grilled fish. Ratan Tata was also known to buy designer clothes for his cook, Rajan Shaw, and his butler, Subbiah, during his international travels.
Ratan Tata has also made special provisions in his will to ensure the lifelong care of his German Shepherd, Tito. Lifetime Care for Tito. Tata adopted Tito around five to six years ago, after the passing of his previous dog with the same name. The responsibility for Tito’s care has been given to Rajan Shaw, Tata’s longtime cook, who will look after the German Shepherd for the rest of its life.
Ratan Tata’s will also reflects his deep appreciation for his loyal household staff. He made specific provisions for Subbiah, his butler who served him for over three decades, ensuring financial support and security for his years of dedicated service. Notably, Tata was known for treating his staff like family, even buying them designer clothes during his international travels.
The will outlines a legacy plan for Tata’s shares in group companies, which will be transferred to the Ratan Tata Endowment Foundation. In addition, Tata’s impressive collection of 20-30 luxury cars, kept at his Colaba residence and Taj Wellington Mews apartments, might either be acquired by the Tata Group for a planned museum in Pune or auctioned. This collection showcases Tata’s love for automobiles, featuring iconic brands from across the world.
To honor Ratan Tata’s illustrious career and contributions, his numerous awards will be donated to the Tata Central Archives, ensuring that his legacy is preserved for future generations. The will is set to undergo probate in the Bombay High Court, a process that could take several months to finalize.
