After a six-year stint with Zomato, Hemal Jain, the company’s global head of finance and chief financial officer (CFO) of its B2B grocery supply vertical, Hyperpure, has announced her resignation. Hemal’s last day at the Gurgaon-based food and grocery delivery giant will be January 31, 2024.

Hemal Jain: Contributor To Zomato’s Success

Hemal joined Zomato in 2018 and played a pivotal role in shaping the company’s financial and operational strategies. She was instrumental in Zomato’s Initial Public Offering (IPO), which marked a milestone in the Indian food-tech space. Her career at Zomato was marked by a dynamic leadership style and contributions that supported the firm in reaching a market capitalization of Rs 2.83 lakh crore.

In her resignation letter, Hemal expressed her gratitude and shared her reasons for stepping down, “I have had the privilege of being part of the Zomato journey and its dynamic team over the past six years. However, after much reflection, I have taken this tough decision to move on and explore a different path,” she wrote.

Career Highlights and Expertise

With a professional journey spanning over 18 years, Hemal Jain has extensive experience in industries such as FMCG, food tech, and e-commerce. Before joining Zomato, she spent over 12 years with Hindustan Unilever, honing her expertise in financial management and strategic planning.

An alumna of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore, Hemal is also a Chartered Accountant, having earned her certification from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.

Crucial Resignations At Zomato

Hemal’s resignation comes at a crucial time for Zomato, which recently received a tax demand of Rs 803.4 crore, including interest and penalty. Her departure follows a series of senior management exits, including co-founder and chief people officer Akriti Chopra in September and independent director Gunjan Tilak Raj Soni shortly thereafter.

Zomato acknowledged Hemal’s decision, stating she has resigned to “explore other opportunities.”

While the specifics of Hemal Jain’s next venture remain undisclosed, her significant contributions to Zomato’s growth story leave an indelible mark on the company.
