Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in Asia, and the 18th wealthiest individual in the world, boasts a net worth of $104.1 billion, according to Forbes. However, the Reliance Industries chairman has not taken any salary from the oil-to-telecom conglomerate since the Covid-19 pandemic, and neither does he sell his shareholding in the company.
As per reports, while Mukesh Ambani does not take a salary from Reliance, he has multiple sources of income, such as investments across various sectors, revenue from his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians, but the primary source of his wealth are the share dividends he receives from the company’s profit distributed among its shareholders.
Mukesh Ambani holds 1.61 crore equity shares in Reliance Industries, and the company has announced a dividend of Rs 5.50 per share for 2024-25, giving the Reliance boss a dividend income of Rs 8.85 crore.
The Ambani family, which is the promoter group of Reliance Industries, collectively owns a 50.39% controlling stake in the company. The Ambanis, own more than half of the 644.51 crore (6.44 billion) shares of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), while the remaining 49.61% are held by public shareholders, including FIIs and corporate bodies, as of April 2025 Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) data.
According to reports, the Ambani family earned a staggering Rs. 3,322.7 crore in dividends from their majority stake in the company in FY23-24. Last year, Reliance Industries had announced 1:1 dividend for its shareholders at Rs 1o per share for the financial year ending March 31, 2024, Hindustan Times reported
According to company’s annual report for financial year 2023-2024, Mukesh Ambani had limited his annual salary to Rs 15 crore from FY 2008-09 to 2019-20. However, after the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020-21, the Reliance Industries Chairman decided not to take any salary till the company’s businesses became profitable again.
As per the company’s report, Mukesh Ambani’s cousins Nikhil and Hital Meswani received an annual salary of Rs 25.31 crore and Rs 25.42 crore in 2023-24, respectively, while this amount was slightly decreased to Rs 25 crore in FY 2024-25.
The salary of the Reliance’s executive director PMS Prasad increased to Rs 19.96 crore in 2024-25, from Rs 17.93 crore last year.
Anant Ambani, Mukesh Ambani and Nita Ambani’s youngest son, who was appointed as an executive director on the company’s board of directors, will receive a salary between Rs 10 crore and Rs 20 crore.
