Reliance Industries Chairman, Mukesh Ambani, remains the richest man in India despite losing a staggering Rs 1 lakh crore of his wealth during the past one year, even as Adani Group boss, Gautam Adani, emerged as the biggest wealth gainer during the same timeframe, according to Hurun Global Rich List 2025.

As per the list, Mukesh Ambani has a net worth of $91.8 billion, while Gautam Adani was the biggest wealth gainer, gaining nearly Rs 1 lakh crore. The Adani Group founder, the second-richest person in India, witnessed an increase of 13 percent in his fortune, with his net worth surging to $53.5 billion, making him the 27th wealthiest globally.

In contrast, Mukesh Ambani dropped out of the world’s top 10 richest individuals as the Reliance boss witnessed a rout of Rs 1 lakh crore of his fortune due to the rising debt levels of Reliance Industries. However, Ambani remains the richest individual in India and the 18th richest globally.

Meanwhile, Roshni Nadar, the daughter of HCL founder Shiv Nadar, recently emerged as the richest woman in India, and the fifth richest globally, after her father gifted her a mammoth 47% stake of his stake in HCLTech promoter firms, making Roshni the majority stakeholder with a controlling 57.33% ownership in the company.

Roshni Nadar is the first Indian woman to be ranked among the top 10 wealthiest women in the world.

According to the Hurun rich list, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk retains his spot as the richest person on the planet despite losing a gargantuan $100 billion since December this year. “Musk has retained his position as the wealthiest person in the world for the fourth time in five years, becoming the first individual to surpass the $400 billion threshold,” as per the Hurun Research report.

Notably, India has emerged as the third-largest hub for billionaires worldwide, with the number rising from 165 in 2023 to 191 in 2024. As per the list, Indian billionaires have a combined wealth of approximately $950 billion, the third highest on the planet behind the United States and China.

US retains its top spot as with highest number of billionaires, housing 870 such individuals, with 96 new additions this year. According to the list, New York City (NYC) remains the global capital of billionaires for the second consecutive year, hosting 129 billionaires.​
