Mukesh Ambani-led JioHotstar has been on a record-setting spree since its launch, and now reports have emerged that the Reliance-Disney joint streaming service has achieved another major milestone, recording the highest-ever single-day subscriptions by an OTT platform. JioHotstar achieved the feat on the day of the India vs Australia semi-final clash in the recently concluded Champions Trophy 2025.
In a LinkedIn post, Jiostar CEO, Kiran Mani revealed that JioHotstar recorded over 540 crore views, 11,000 crore minutes of watch time during ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025. “What a journey the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 has been so far! With over 540+ crore views, 11,000 crore minutes of watch time, and a peak concurrency of 6.12 crore, these numbers tell a powerful story of scale, passion, and the evolution of digital streaming in India,” he wrote.
According to analytics, the Champions Trophy final between India and New Zealand was viewed a staggering 124.2 crore times on Mukesh Ambani-led OTT platform. The final clash, which saw India emerging victorious and lifting the Champions Trophy for a third time, recorded 6.12 crore viewers on JioHotstar, smashing the earlier record of 5.9 crore viewers held by the platform’s predecessor, Disney+ Hotstar during the 2023 ICC Men’s World Cup final between India and Australia.
Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has a controlling 63.16 percent stake in JioHotstar, which was birthed following the merger of Jio and Walt Disney’s Disney+ Hotstar service in November last year. According to available data, Mukesh Ambani-owned Jio has a 16.34 percent direct stake, and 46.82 percent stake through Viacom18.
The rest of the 36.84 percent stake in the joint venture is held by Disney.
In related news, Reliance Jio is offering complimentary subscription to its premium OTT platform, JioHotstar, to select users. Jio, India’s largest telecom provider, announced subscription plans for its various entertainment offering on its new website Jiostar.com
According to details announced by the company, users who already have active Disney+ Hotstar subscription will get a subscription to JioHotstar at no additional cost, meaning that their subscription to the previous service will be carried over to the new platform. For example, if a user has a month left on their Disney+ Hotstar subscription, it will be carried over to the JioHotstar platform, allowing them access to Jio’s OTT service till the plan lasts.
