Ford Figo’s facelift has made us take notice of the premium hatchback segment amid the buzz of entry-level hatchback Renault Kwid and few launches in the compact-SUV segment. The new Ford Figo 2015 is the facelift of its predecessor and also happens to be the trimmed down version of Ford’s recently launched sedan- Aspire. Figo, launched in 2010, has been quite a success as far as fortunes of Ford in India are concerned. Now with the revamped version of its successful hatchback the company is looking to cope with the market and give customers a fresh product.
The all new Figo will be in confrontation with cars like popular Maruti Suzuki Swift, Hyundai’s Elite 120, Volkswagen Polo and Nissan Micra. For now we will compare the base variant of new Figo with Swift and Elitei20.
Engine
The re-launched Figo comes with a 1.2-litre Ti-VCT petrol engine that churns out a maximum power output of 87bhp and a peak torque of 112Nm. The Swift features a K-Series petrol engine that has a capability of producing 83bhp and torque of about 115Nm while the 1.2 MPi in Elite i20 produces 82bhp and 114.7 Nm torque. And regarding the fuel consumption Swift walks away with honours and returns a fuel efficiency of 20.4 kmpl.

Appearance
All three cars are good-looking. However, Figo being the latest one with facelift looks enticing, and the similar looks to Aspire works in its favour. Elite i20 is the slightly longer than its rivals with Swift being the shortest and Figo fitting in-between. Swift and i20 have almost similar ground clearance while Figo has highest of the all by just 4 mm.

Space
Swift has the least boot space of all, but it makes it up with a roomy interior. Elite i20 has the largest boot space and can also store few extra litres of fuel than Figo and Swift.

Price

The Bottom Line
While airbag feature is missing in the base models of Swift and Elite i20 Figo has got it covered and offers a driver airbag. With new looks, and cheaper price tag Figo is going to create space for itself yet again, but Maruti Suzuki’s extensive network and trust is something that goes in favour of Swift.
