While school and central government offices are closed today, banks and post offices across the country are opened on August 17. They might close in the second half of the day as banks are waiting for a communication from the concerned department. Post offices will remain open for the first half of the day and are expected to close for a later half of the day. The 93-year-old Vajpayee died yesterday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Thursday following a prolonged illness.

Some of the roads that will be closed today include, Krishna Menon Marg, Tees January Marg, Man Singh Road, Bhagwan Dass Road, Shahjahan Road, Sunehri Bagh Road, Tughlak Road, Akbar Road and Sikandara Road. The traffic police said that DDU Marg, IP Marg, BSZ Marg (from Tilak Bridge to Delhi Gate), JLN Marg (from Rajghat to Delhi Gate) will also remain closed ahead of Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s funeral.

 Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the first non-Congress prime minister who has the credit of completing the full term of five years. He was a brilliant politician and orator but he will also be remembered for his economic policies. He laid the foundation for strong infrastructure and telecom revolution in the country.
