Noel Tata has officially been appointed as the new Chairman of Tata Trusts. The unanimous decision by the board places Noel at the forefront of two of Tata Group’s most critical charitable foundations, the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust. The decision was made unanimously by the board, placing Noel at the helm of two of the most significant charitable organizations within the Tata Group.

Noel Tata, already serves as a trustee in the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust and the Sir Ratan Tata Trust, as a key figure in the decision-making process. These two trusts collectively own a 66% stake in Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group, including a 52% direct stake. Given the Trusts’ significant role in overseeing the governance of the Rs 165 billion Tata Group.

Noel Tata, now appointed Chairman of Tata Trusts, also holds several key roles within the Tata Group. He serves as vice-chairman of Titan and Tata Steel and chairs Trent, the retail arm of the group that owns brands like Zudio and Westside, as well as Tata Investment Corp., an NBFC. Noel also sits on the board of Voltas and began his career as the managing director of Tata International.

His last executive assignment was as the Managing Director of Tata International Ltd, the trading and distribution arm of the Tata Group, between August 2010 and November 2021. He had overseen the growth of the company from a turnover of USD 500 million to over USD 3 billion.

Before his stint in Tata International, Noel Tata served as the Managing Director of Trent Ltd, Tata group’s retail arm. He played a pivotal role in the growth of Trent across formats, from a one-store operation in 1998 to over 700 stores across formats.

An alumnus of Sussex University in the UK, Noel furthered his education with the International Executive Programme (IEP) from INSEAD, France. Prior to joining the Tata Group, he worked with Nestlé in the UK.

Noel, an Irish citizen, is married to Aloo Mistry, daughter of Pallonji Mistry, the largest shareholder in Tata Sons. The couple has three children—Leah, Maya, and Neville.
