PhonePe Payment Gateway (PhonePe PG) has partnered with Mastercard, one of the world’s leading payment technology companies, to launch a device tokenisation solution that makes online card payments safer and smoother. The announcement was made at the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2025. This partnership will allow PhonePe PG to use Mastercard’s tokenisation technology, which replaces real card details with secure digital tokens, helping protect customer information and reducing fraud risk during online payments.
Travel platform ixigo, which powers flight, bus, and train bookings on PhonePe, has already started using this feature. With the integration of PhonePe PG, ixigo users can now make faster and safer card payments across its apps.
With this new system, customers only need to save their card details once on the PhonePe app. They can then use the same card safely across all participating websites and apps without re-entering details every time.
This “save once, use everywhere” experience not only saves time but also offers stronger security. It also helps businesses by reducing payment drop-offs and improving customer satisfaction with a quick one-tap checkout.
The partnership combines Mastercard’s global expertise in secure payments with PhonePe’s large user base and merchant network, creating a seamless and trusted payment experience for millions of customers.
Ankit Gaur, Head of Payment Gateway and Online Merchants at PhonePe, said, “At PhonePe PG, our goal is to make digital payments simple, fast, and secure. Partnering with Mastercard strengthens our shared vision of building customer trust and helping merchants thrive in India’s growing digital economy.”
He added that with device tokenisation, merchants like ixigo can now offer quick and safe one-tap payments that improve user experience while fully following RBI guidelines.
Under the latest RBI regulations, customers can now use alternative authentication methods for online payments.
With this update, users making payments through PhonePe’s device tokens can simply verify transactions using their device biometrics such as a fingerprint or face scan instead of entering a one-time password (OTP).
This new feature makes the payment process faster, safer, and more convenient, while still meeting RBI’s strict security standards. It allows users to enjoy a smooth one-click checkout experience without compromising on safety.
