PM Modi flags off Maruti Suzuki's 1st electric vehicle…, its India’s first EV which will be sent to 100..

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday flagged off Maruti Suzuki’s first electric vehicle e-Vitara from the Hansalpur manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The made-in-India Maruti e-Vitara will be exported to more than 100 countries, including Japan.

Modi also inaugurated the lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility by Suzuki, Toshiba, and Denso, supporting hybrid and electric vehicle battery production. This SUV is India’s first electric SUV that will be exported to more than 100 countries, including Japan and European nations.

Why Is Maruti Suzuki’s 1st EV e-Vitara Different?

The day is not just the launch of a vehicle but also a step towards making India more self-reliant. The event was held at Suzuki Motor’s Hansalpur plant, where the Prime Minister also inaugurated the assembly line for the e-VITARA. Alongwith, he launched the TDS lithium-ion battery plant, which will begin local production of hybrid battery electrodes.

The new battery plant is expected to strengthen India’s clean energy ecosystem and domestic manufacturing. Over 80% of the batteries will now be produced locally, reducing dependence on imports and advancing the country’s self-reliance. The Hansalpur facility already has the capacity to produce 7.5 lakh units annually, and this new production line will further expand its output. The plant, which began operations in 2014 with models like the Baleno and later the Swift, will now bring new technology and jobs with the rollout of the e-VITARA.

Maruti Suzuki e-VITARA Features Design Battery

The design of the e-VITARA is derived from last year’s eVX concept, though simplified for production. Key features include tri-slash LED headlamps, a front-mounted charging port, and rear door handles positioned near the C-pillar, giving it a stylish edge. The SUV measures 4,275 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, 1,635 mm in height, with a 2,700 mm wheelbase, making it larger than the Hyundai Creta. It has a ground clearance of 180 mm, suitable for Indian roads. Depending on the variant, its weight ranges between 1,702 and 1,899 kg.

The e-VITARA is powered by a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, available in two sizes – 49kWh and 61kWh. The larger 61kWh pack supports dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD), branded by Maruti Suzuki as “AllGrip-e.” On a single charge, the SUV can cover over 500 km. The company will also provide door-to-door servicing, ensuring greater convenience for customers.

Maruti Suzuki e-VITARA Price

The e-VITARA will compete against the Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Nexon EV, and MG Windsor. For instance, the Creta EV comes with 42kWh and 51.4kWh batteries, offering a range of 390–473 km, priced between Rs 17.99 lakh and Rs 24.38 lakh. While the price of the e-VITARA has not yet been revealed, it is expected to make a strong impact in the Indian EV market.
