Post Office Small Saving Scheme: Customers looking for safe return of money generally invest in post office small saving schemes such as Public Provident Fund, National Savings Certificate and Senior Citizens’ Saving Scheme. These saving schemes have been popular with fixed income investors for long time now. However, sometimes money in these post office saving accounts remains unclaimed for years.

Because of long investment tenures or having multiple accounts, many people forget about their savings and investments plans. After a certain period of time, this unclaimed money from the post office saving schemes gets moved to a different government funds. As per updates, there are various welfare and awareness funds where these unclaimed money from such accounts are moved to.

However, the account holders and policyholders can claim this money directly from these funds. The customers must know that the unclaimed money from bank fixed deposits is moved to the Depositor Education and Awareness Fund (DEAF), unclaimed insurance, PPF and EPF money is moved to the Senior Citizen’s Welfare Fund (SCWF), and unclaimed money from mutual funds and stocks is moved to the Investor Education and Protection Fund (IEPF).

Here’s how to track details of unclaimed money

  • Visit India Post website.
  • Click on ‘Banking and Remittance’.
  • On this page select Post Office Savings Scheme.
  • And then select Senior Citizen Welfare Fund.
  • You will get a list based on accounts such as Savings Bank, PPF, Kisan Vikas Patra.
  • Once you click on the account type, you will find state-wise account details.
