Ratan Tata’s Death Anniversary: Ratan Tata, India’s most loved business icons and a great philanthropist, passed away on October 9, 2024. He was 86. His demise created a vacuum in the business world and shocked the countrymen. Tata’s sea-facing Halekai luxury bungalow fell silent after his demise. After Ratan Tata’s death the internet has been abuzz with questions regarding who will inherit the house? or will Noel Tata, Ratan Tata’s half-brother, inherit the house? People are following every news regarding the great businessman’s stunning Colaba retreat.
Located in Mumbai’s Colaba area Halekai is spread in 13,350 sq ft sea facing land. Halekai—which means ‘by the sea’, is designed by Ratan Tata and architect Ratan Batliboi. After resigning as the chairman of Tata Sons, Tata started living in the bungalow, swapping bedrooms for ocean breezes.
• Ratan Tata passed away on October 9, 2024, leaving Halekai bungalow vacant.
• Halekai, a Rs 150 crore sea-facing home in Colaba, was designed by Ratan Tata himself.
• Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, is rumoured to be the next resident.
• The bungalow belongs to Tata Sons’ subsidiary not personally owned by Ratan Tata.
Currently, the luxury home is unoccupied, and curiosity is rising about who will inherit the Rs 150 crore bungalow that once echoed Ratan Tata’s voice?
Noel Tata, chairman of Tata Trusts, is the next Tata who is leading the reputed Group. Notably, Tata Trusts holds majority ownership of Tata Sons. Noel is silently but steadily carving the next chapter of one of India’s oldest business families.
Neo Tata is currently living in the upmarket Windmere building in Cuffe Parade.
According to some insiders, if Noel inherit the bungalow it could symbolise continuity. Others, however, say nothing is final yet.
The bungalow combines traditional vibes with modern design elements.
Notably, Ratan Tata lived in Halekai, he was not the owner of the property. The bungalow belongs to Ewart Investments, which is a Tata Sons subsidiary company. It simply means that the next occupant of the luxury bungalow will be selected not by inheritance, but by the company.
However, Halekai echoes Ratan Tata’s thought of simple living. Its minimal decor to the open terraces shows calm clarity rather than grandeur.
As the Tata family has this sensitive choice but speculation persists. Will the bungalow be transformed into a memorial to Ratan Tata, celebrating his charitable nature and ethical business principles? Or will Noel Tata leave his mark on it.
