Reliance Jio phone has captured almost half of the feature phone market in India, according to a report by Counterpoint Research. Reliance Jio dominates India’s feature phone market segment as research confirms that the company holds a phenomenal market share of 47 per cent in the industry. The report is sourced from the numbers reported in the second quarter of 2018. The Mukesh Ambani owned telecom giant is achieving a 21 per cent year on year growth in the feature phone market. In fact, Reliance Jio has grown to become the largest player in a matter of a years’ time. During the second quarter of 2017, the company had a measly share of 0.3 per cent and is now dominating the industry. Next to Reliance, in the second and third place lies Samsung and Nokia. The market share of Samsung is 9 per cent this year as against 27 per cent last year. Nokia’s market share had increased from 3 per cent in 2017 to 8 per cent in the second quarter of 2018.
Reliance Jio had announced the launch of a fresh variant of Jio Phone which runs KaiOS, an aggressive new exchange offer with the availability of apps like Google Assistant, Facebook, Google Maps, WhatsApp and YouTube at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held earlier in the month.
The telecom giant is looking to increase the user base to around 100 million over the next one year. Currently, the company is estimated to have sold over 25 million units and plans to improve the momentum of growth.
With limited time exchange offers, the company plans to enhance its reach in the market. Reliance Jio announced an exciting offer during its Annual General Meeting. Under the Monsoon Hungama Offer, one can exchange any old feature phone with a new Jio phone.
